Moonchild's Dream And Nele's Dances Re-recorded

Thomas" works, written over many years for the famous recorder virtuoso Michala Petri, have all been re-recorded or recording for the first time and may be released on CD already during spring 2006.

The CD will feature only works by Thomas, performed by Michala Petri with various orchestras and partners:

Moonchild's Dream, the much beloved recorder concerto that became a great succes in the previous recording by RCA Classics with Michala Petri and the English Chamber Orchestra, and has been performed numerous times by Michala and other soloists on almost all continents.

Nele's Dances, a musical fairytale inspired by Flemish wtiter Da Coster's legendary novel on medieval figure Ugelspiel and his friends - and his beloved Nele, to whom Thomas' work is dedicated. This work is written for recorder and lute - as performed hundreds of times across the planet by Michala and her lute/guitarist husband Lars Hannibal.

Los Angeles Street Concerto too has been performed all over Europe and several times in the US. This is the latest of Thomas' works for Michala and is an almost circus-like musical poem based on an experience from Los Angeles Street in downtown Los Angeles - the street of a thousand cradboard boxes - the homes of ten thousands of street living people.

The latest recordings took place in Copenhagen. More on the recordings and the upcoming CD release shortly.

May 6, 2005:
New Movie Score Finished

In January/February 2005, Annisette & Thomas were in Philippines as the guests of the STAIRWAY FOUNDATION, Manilan. Stairway Foundation runs a famous creative project for street children and abused children. Their 2003 animated movie, 'Daughter', of which The Savage Rose's "What Do You Do Now', is an important part, won 2 international awards at the Annecy Festival in France - the most important festival in the world for animations. Now Stairway has created a new animation, "A Good Boy", for which Thomas has just finished the score.

The new film is a warning to children and educators of the dangers of child molestation and rape, a main problem among poor Philippine children, but a serious problem anywhere in the world, and in all sectors of society.

Thomas created the music in his own studios in Los Angeles and then Puerto Rico, after he and Annisette moved there at the end of March 2005. The sounds of the Puerto Rican rain forest, almost right outside the windows of Thomas' studio, are not too different from what he and Annisette experienced at the Stairway camp situated near the Philippine rain forest in Oriental Mindori.

The score is performed by Thomas with the sizzling vocals of Annisette, and the famous Puerto Rican guitarist Carlos "TATO" Sánchez. In the main song, "Up Up The Stairway", Annisette, Thomas and Carlos are joined by a choir of the children of Stairway, and the children of Adriatico Street, Manila - recorded live on location in the green jungle og Oriental Mindori as well as the afsphalt jungle of Manila - a city of ten million of which 5 million are homeless, among those hundreds of thousands of children.

The film will be distributed right away in numerous countries.

2005!

Annisette & Thomas are on their way to the Philippines. They're going to spend a month with STAIRWAY FOUNDATION, a successful rehabilitation conter for street children of Manila close to the rain forest about four hours from Manila.

Stairway Foundation last year created a dazzling and courageous animated movie about child buse. The movie had music by The Savage Rose and was screened at the Annecy Festival, which is the most important international festival for animations. It was awarded two awards, the award as best educational movie, and UNICEF's honorary award.

A new movie is under production from Stairway - scored by Thomas.

Annisette & Thomas will return to Denmark mid February, only to move on directly to Los Angeles. 2005 is going to be a very busy year for the two. Besides the movie about street children another large-scale project is waiting - a big, new, international work of music inspired by the indigenous polar peoples, with music, song, dance, to be presented in 2006-07. More about this later.

Also The Savage Rose are going to record their first studio album since the legendary For Your Love album from 2001. The CD is being produced by The Savage Rose's L. A. based label, Street Ballerina Music and is expected released in October 2005, distributed and marketed by RecArt.

Thomas has thanked no to be, along with American composer Stephen Schwarz, a main composer of Gladsaxe Theater's Hans Christian Andersen musical for the Hans Christian Andersen Year Celebrations, because the theatre wanted extraordinary limitations in traditional composer's rights.

Also The Savage Rose can be experienced LIVE at few, selected festivals in Scandinavia June thru August 2005. A Scandinavian tour of concert halls is expected October/November 2005.
We relax when we do good things, says Thomas.

Thomas & Hans Christian Andersen

Some media have mentioned that Thomas, with a. o. US Broadway composer Stephen Schwartz (Godspell, Wicked), is among the authors of Gladsaxe Theatre's new largescale musical on Hans Christian Andersen. Thomas has asked us to pass this on to you all:

"I have been invited by theater director Flemming Enevold to be a co-composer of the musical, responsible for a number of songs, the dramatic music, and all arrangements.

I was very happy as I am a big HCA fan and previously have written an opera for the Royal Opera as well as an ice skating ballet for the gala of the European Championships in figure skating, both based on Andersen.

I have had great creative conversations with Flemming Enevold, Stephen Schwartz, and playwright Philip LaZebnik.

However, I asked the theatre to not publish my possible cooperation until our agreement was settled and done, and this phase is not quite finished yet."

It is a musical fairytale following a dream of beauty dancing through the infamous card-board box villages of Downtown Los Angeles, where thousands of homeless people are suffering every day and night. The idea for the work was triggered by a little homeless woman approaching Annisette one winter evening, embracing and kissing her and welcoming her as the 'Holy Mother of Tijana'.

Los Angeles Street Concerto has previously been performed at the Carnergie Museum,. New York, and the Danish National Radio Concert Hall.

DAUGHTER

The Savage Rose's 1996 recording of 'What Do You Do Now (Black Angel) is the musical foundation of a new short Philippine animated documentary, 'Daughter', to be released soon. The film is a social and artistic masterpiece. The producer is Stairway Foundation, a program that takes care of street children of Manila:

'Most of the children and youth we have worked with and cared for here at Stairway over the past decade have not been orphans, but rather refugees, who have fled their homes due to violence and abuse. These children and their families are all victims of abject poverty......[but] child sexual abuse is not a malaise confined to those most deprived in our society. It is an evil taking its toll in all nations, cultures and social classes.... '

'I'm breaking free these chains
Binding me to the past
Cutting the shackles
Away at last

No more heartache
No more shame
From now on I refuse
To play the silent game'
(by Tinna M. Perry)

NEW SCORE FROM THOMAS

Thomas has completed the initial version of the score for a new, beautiful animated film, MIRZA.
Mirza is being produced by TINYFILM, Copenhagen. The story is based on a classic Kurdish fairytale of love, magic, good and evil, and the beautiful land of the Kurds.

'I have not tried to make Kurdish music', Thomas says. 'I rather tried to interpret the depth, high spirit, and atmosphere of the Kurdish culture, as well as my own, long-lasting love for the Kurdish music, which we have approached before with our interpretation of a Kurdish song (released on FIRE & FREEDOM, 1989), and our many encounters with the Kurdish in Europe and in Turkey. Like all oppressed and proud peoples, the Kurdish are in our hearts, and that is the main source of my score'.

This is one of many initiatives in several fields of art in a non-declared, but worldwide movement to present the beauty of the cultures of the peoples suffering from war and occupation, and often - by their conquerors - pictured as rogue and dangerous nations, which the world can treat, destroy or strip of their cultural heritage as it pleases. These artistic initiatives certainly prove this sick idea unvalid.

One other such initiative is the LULLABIES FROM THE 'AXIS OF EVIL' CD, to be released in a few days by KKV, Norway, starring great Arabic singers with the three most prominent Scandinavian singers Eva Dahlgren, Sweden, Kari Bremnes, Norway, and last but not least: Annisette, Denmark. (see video and more about Lullabies From The Axis Of Evil HERE).

The final version of MIRZA is planned to be finished during 2004. With Thomas' score, of course, and featuring Annisette among others.
